I have revised the suggested questions to reflect actual policy and added a link to a list of all open bugs for the AppDB. However, IMO, the AppDB really needs to be rewritten from scratch. Tweaking the UI is just putting lipstick on a pig. --RosanneDiMesio (talk) 12:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)
I have revised the suggested questions to reflect actual policy and added a link to a list of all open bugs for the AppDB. However, IMO, the AppDB really needs to be rewritten from scratch; tweaking the UI is just putting lipstick on a pig. The discussion of any major overhaul would need to happen on wine-devel, not here. IMO, we should delete all the suggestions listed (other than fixing bugs) and leave a note  advising readers  interested in improving the AppDB to open a discussion on wine-devel.  --RosanneDiMesio (talk) 12:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)

:Thanks for the updates. I haven't spent as much time around AppDB or Bugzilla as the wiki so I didn't know the current state of affairs. You're right too that any discussion will eventually need to happen on the mailing list, but my one worry is that unless issues are handled right away, they seem to fall through the cracks there (nobody's fault, I think it's just the nature of the medium). I feel like keeping this page as a scratchpad for planning out changes would be good, but of course, abandoned or superseded ideas could be cut ruthlessly. -- KyleAuble (talk) 21:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)

:I actually wasn't aware of that, but it doesn't surprise me; it's good we have a clear statement now. I may add some details to the warnings at some point to clarify what might be acceptable. For example, I think Bugzilla itself provides several features that our custom code could be tweaked to use, no need to patch Bugzilla itself. -- KyleAuble (talk) 21:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)

AppDB Improvements

I have revised the suggested questions to reflect actual policy and added a link to a list of all open bugs for the AppDB. However, IMO, the AppDB really needs to be rewritten from scratch; tweaking the UI is just putting lipstick on a pig. The discussion of any major overhaul would need to happen on wine-devel, not here. IMO, we should delete all the suggestions listed (other than fixing bugs) and leave a note advising readers interested in improving the AppDB to open a discussion on wine-devel. --RosanneDiMesio (talk) 12:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)

Thanks for the updates.

Bugzilla and Forum

Since patches to the code are unlikely to be accepted, listing things here that require them seems pointless.--RosanneDiMesio (talk) 12:50, 28 February 2016 (CST)

I actually wasn't aware of that, but it doesn't surprise me; it's good we have a clear statement now. I may add some details to the warnings at some point to clarify what might be acceptable. For example, I think Bugzilla itself provides several features that our custom code could be tweaked to use, no need to patch Bugzilla itself. -- KyleAuble (talk) 21:15, 28 February 2016 (CST)
