:Fair enough, and I agree the formatting isn't much to look at in the picture (I think it was done purely within the old MoinMoin wiki). I found it on one of the old user pages and figured it wouldn't hurt to keep here for a little while; it's at least something to start from if someone decides to rework the Main Page down the road. I'd have no problem deleting it if there's a consensus though. -- [[User:KyleAuble|KyleAuble]] ([[User talk:KyleAuble|talk]]) 02:52, 26 February 2016 (CST)

:Using tables to get a fancier layout increases the difficulty of editing the page. Spruce up the layout of the wiki's Main Page?

  • One possibility is to sort all the sections & links into tables
Mockup of the wiki's Main Page with tables

Comment (RosanneDiMesio): I think the current layout is fine, and the mockup with tables is cluttered, confusing, and just plain ugly.

Using tables to get a fancier layout increases the difficulty of editing the page. It's easy to add an item to a simple list, and it will look okay, no matter how long it is, or what device the user is viewing it on. With tables, sentences may wrap in ugly ways, and adding a single new item can throw off the entire layout, even on a desktop monitor. And then there's the issue of mobile devices... Users shouldn't have to be experts in web design to contribute to the wiki. --RosanneDiMesio (talk) 09:10, 26 February 2016 (CST)
